Summer School 2010 - Gougane Barra

A most enjoyable and fruitful summer school took place in Gougane Barra from May 17th to 24th. TLI members were joined by members of the Lace Guild of Northern Ireland and visitors from England. Stories and techniques were swopped and work in progress greatly admired. Highlights included a visit to Garnish Island and a wonderful talk by Sean O Suilleabhain on the history and lore of Gougane Barra. Heartfelt thanks to Neil, Katy, Breda and Marie for your wonderful care and great food - we're already looking forward to 2011.

RDS National Crafts Competition 2009

Congratulations to Pat Lamb on her wonderful achievement at this year's RDS National Crafts Competition. Pat won 7 awards for her Youghal Needlelace and Mountmellick Embroidery. Her Youghal Lace runner was awarded 1st place in the Lace Category, the Country Markets Medal and the Guild of Irish Lacemakers Award. A purse with Youghal Lace insert was awarded the Eleanora De La Branchardiere Award and the TLI Perpetual Trophy. Two Mountmellick cushion covers were awarded 1st prize in the Embroidery (Traditional) category and the Mairin O'Brien Flegg Memorial Award (Traditional).

Workshops with the Lace Guild of Northern Ireland

34 TLI members spent a most enjoyable and busy weekend of 23/27 April 2009 in Larne Co Antrim where they shared workshops with members of the Lace Guild of Northern Ireland. Social events included a reception by the Mayor of Larne, Cllr Bobby McKee and his wife Betty and visits to the Giant's Causeway and the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. The opportunity to see a private lace collection was greatly appreciated as was the chance to see some work done by members of the Larne WI. Our stay in Drumalis coincided with a musical evening there which was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend. Our thanks to everyone involved in organising the trip.
