Lace Clinics

Two very succesful lace clinics, led by Veronica Stuart, were held at Cork Craft Supplies, Paul Street during July and August 2011, where members took time to demonstrate and explain different techniques to shoppers.  Some of the shoppers were brave enough to try their hands and were delighted with their results.

Children's Craft Days

Over the summer a number of craft days for children were held in Fota House, Cobh, Co Cork.  The idea behind the days is to get children interested in hand sewing by doing fun projects .  Ladybird pin cushions and flower key rings were the biggest hits among the children. 




Pan Celtic Festival, Dingle, April 2011

As part of the 2011 Pan Celtic Festival hosted in Dingle, 20 TLI members provided a working exhibition of Irish Laces on Friday, April 28th.  The exhibition was a great success and featured on the RTE Nationwide Programme on Wednesday, May 4th together with an interview with Veronica Stuart.  Veronica was delighted to tell Michael Ryan that 200 lace makers regularly take classes in Cork city and county.  


Youghal Needlepoint Lace Book revised and updated by Catherine Clancy

Youghal Needlepoint Lace is one of the finest Irish Laces and is made entirely out of thread.  In this book, the history and the revival of Youghal Needlepoint Lace are documented.  It is also a student guide to the making of Youghal Needlepoint with step by step instructions.  There are beautiful patterns included -  from beginners to advanced level - and magnificant photos of the Irish laces.  Available from Cork Craft Supplies, priced 15 euro or directly from Catherine Clancy at 087 7595370 or cathi_sc@hotmail.com


Antique and Modern Irish Laces on display in Fota House, April - October 2010

TLI mounted an exhibition of antique and modern Irish laces in the master bedroom suite on the first floor of Fota House.  The exhibition was spread over the 5 rooms of the suite and showed that the craft of lace making is alive and well as many of the exhibits were the work of current members of TLI.  Beautiful antique Youghal needlelace together with modern examples could be viewed as well as antique and modern pieces of Limerick lace.  Other laces on display included Carrickmacross, Borris, Kenmare, Inismacsaint, Mountmellick embroidery and Irish Crochet.  The full exhibition was open on Sundays when TLI members were available to answers queries on the display while one room was open during the week.  The exhbition closed in October.


FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council) Success for TLI Members

At the February 2010 Lace Day it was announced that 11 TLI members had recently been successful at a number of levels in FETAC examinations.  Three members had completed level 5 (two of these also completing level 3). Eight ladies had been successful in level 6; 6 of these had also completed a second module - training the trainer.  The examination pieces were displayed and the work involved and level of craft achieved were hugely admired. The candidates were very happy to answer the many questions on inspiration behind the pieces and materials used.  Congratulations were extended to all the successful candidates and their tutors.
